Jack the Crested Penguin
by: Cherrycrochett

Jack is an erect-crested penguin. These penguins come ashore only by the beginning of the breeding season. They are highly social animals, gathering into large nesting colonies, alongside albatross and fur seals. Both the male and the female incubate the eggs. After the chick fledges, the parents undergo molt before returning to the sea. Population declines are attributed to major global-warming-induced changes in the marine environment that have reduced penguin prey. The current population is estimated at only 150,000 mature individuals.
