Help! I've started several times but keep getting a "swirl" of the white in the blue! I feel like it starts going off the rails on round 3 because the number of white stitches aren't enough to finish the round. Is there an errata somewhere? Thanks!

i have been doing it using V stitch, si I though this was the issue but the same is going on with the X stitch. The count is good, also, i am changing the color as recommended, at the end of the previous stitch...
what am I doing wrong? (Note this is the V stitch one, I keep on starting again the X one)

Hi MarieEve, I'm sorry to hear that! Can you please share a picture of your work with the X-stitches? Does it show the same kind of swirl?
Hi everyone! For this design in particular it would be very important to work with X-single crochet stitches. Instructions to work this type of single crochet stitch can be found in the introductory part of the book. They will make your crochetwork turn less, as the stitches stack more on top of each other.
There will always be a little swirl, but it will be less than the one you're seeing now and it will be less visible once the whale is stuffed.

it is not as bad as for now... but things get sour around round 23-26...
i had to restart again from 23. I wonder if there is something wrong with the translation... can we compare English and French?
this is the X one but the same happened with the X one...
I am having the same issue with MAJOR twisting. I am doing the color changes correctly and it is just going sideways as the round count gets higher. I cant get any of the pictures on these posts to load to know if mine is going like everyone else's.
I found for this pattern my whale was twisting using the x stitch as well, to the point that I was going to abandon it because I was expecting the white belly to make it's way up the side of the whale. As a last ditch effort I tried twisting up to the point that I had stitched the opposite way with my hands pretty forcefully and stuffing immediately to hold its place. It seems like if you have a little slack you can pull your stiches on top of each other after they're stiched. It fixed the issue for me and my whale's belly is almost completely straight. There is still the slightest of curve at the beginning but it is dramatically better than before I tried this.
