Hi, thanks for your message and I'm sorry for the late reply! You first work 26 sc, then skip 18 stitches and work another 23 sc (22 sc + sc in first st to close the round). This leaves a hole of 18 stitches where you'll work the tail later. Picture 2 shows you the result at the end of round 10. I hope this helps you out!
