pattern reading

Hi everyone..
sorry to bother you all.

this is my second attempt with amigurumi toys and everything went surprisingly fine,
untill I came to the Devon's ears.
I cannot understand how to read (and do) the patterns about them (in particular, row 2 and 4).
Can somebody please help me,
giving me a link for some tutorials or explaining me how to do and count the stichtes in these rows?
I am always finishing with 12 stichtes in row 2 instead of 18.
Has anybody else had this problem?

Thank you.
Letizia

Hi LetyBrian, i believe you're referring to this part?

Row 1: start in second ch from hook, sc in next 6 st,
ch 3, turn [6]
Row 2: 3 dc in all 6 st, ch 3, turn [18]
Row 3: dc in all 18 st [18]
Fold the ear in half and crochet the next row through
both layers to close (picture 1).
Row 4: (sc in next st, dc + ch 1 + dc in the same st,
sc in next st) repeat 3 times [15]

Are you sure you're reading the abbreviations correctly? dc means double crochet, this is a taller stitch, explained at the front of the book.

In row 1 you end with 6 stitches. In row 2 you work 3 double crochet stitches in each of these 6 stitches.
6 x 3 = 18.

I hope this helps?

Yes!!
I don't know why, but when I looked online for 3dc, I came up with "3 double crochet cluster",
that was not the same as 3 x double crochet..
anyway, I got to finally finish it and I'm so proud of it!

Thank you so much for your kind and quick answer, I really appreciate it.

Hi there,

im having similar issues with the ears as well, however I get stuck on row 3 and 4. I can't seem to fathom how to complete these 2 rows. I understand the abbreviations but I'm just having difficulty understanding where to place the stitches. Does anyone have a video tutorial on how to complete the ears? I'm trying to complete this before February 28th for my God Daughters birthday and I'm completely stuck 077-dissapointment.jpg otherwise I'm going to have to choose a different toy from the book.

thanks in advance

Jeremy

Hey I just finished myself, I know this is later than what you needed. But maybe another gift for something in the future?

basically every stitch will be through two sets of Vs. Like when you closed off the wings.  I used a lot of stitch markers until I got the hang of it. So stitches: 1&18 will be the sc, then 2&17 will be the dc, ch, dc, and 3&16 will be sc. and repeat until the end.
