This is a PDF CROCHET PATTERN, NOT THE FINISHED DOLL.

DIEGA IN A FRENCH OUTFIT, is my original design for you to crochet your own doll.
This doll is part of a new series that includes iconic garments through history.

Diega is wearing a Breton or striped shirt, that took their name from Bretagne in Northern France. These cotton shirts with stripes became part of the uniform for sailors in 1858, they were really easy to spot in case of a sea emergency and the fabric was hard-wearing.
Originally the Breton shirt had twenty-one stripes, a nod to Napoleon's twenty-one naval victories over the English.
Nowadays is a popular fashion item all over the world and is considered classic style and one of the easiest patterns to wear.
This story involves the fashion designer Coco Chanel, she was the one that brought stripes to French culture and fame. She was inspired by the French sailors blue and white striped shirt on her vacation trip to the French Riviera and incorporated it to her nautical collection (but first she wore it herself) way back in 1917. This is how she turned this shirt into a chic and fashionable garment.

If crocheted with the suggested hook and yarn, DIEGA´S size is 32cm. (12.5 inches)

The pattern is suitable for both beginners and more experienced crafters.
