US English pattern by Ahooka. Includes step-by-step pictures.
This pattern is a creative moment just for you, a gentle pause to make a meaningful, one-of-a-kind doll.
Lil’ Swimmer is one of the six crocheted dolls in the “Lil’Ladies” collection. This PDF pattern includes clear, detailed instructions to make the doll, her hairstyle, her bathrobe, and her towel. If you already own the pattern for another doll from the same collection, you can mix and match their hairstyles.
Lil’ Swimmer is the Lil’Lady with strong shoulders. Not only because she swims, but because she carries. Bags, children, projects, a struggling friend. Sometimes silence, too. She is the one people rely on, the one you can lean on. The one who finds a way forward, even when there seems to be none.
The “Lil’Ladies” collection was created to celebrate women’s bodies, all women’s bodies. With just a few stitches, I wanted to represent as many body shapes as possible. The one who feels “too” round, “too” tall, “too” small. The one who thinks she has a belly that’s “too” big, shoulders that are “too” broad, breasts that are “too” large, hips that are “too” wide. Because “too much” has gone on for too long, and it’s time for that to change.
I am the mother of a little girl and a little boy, and I refuse to let them grow up believing that a woman has to fit a single mold to be beautiful. I want to pass on the idea that real beauty lives in diversity.
