Even if we rarely talk about it, we all know, from near or far, a woman who has lived through the unbearable: the loss of a life just beginning. Rainbow Mama was created as a tribute to all bereaved mothers. She embodies life after loss, hope after the storm, and sunshine after the rain.

Rainbow Mama placed 11th with more than 700 votes in the 2025 amigurumi.com design contest and raised over €1,200 during its pre-sale.

This pattern was carefully designed and tested over more than 2 months to refine every detail and offer as much clarity and precision as possible, even in the most technical steps.

✧ MATERIALS ✧

► Fingering weight cotton yarn. I used 2 balls of Scheepjes Catona in a skin tone color. You will find in the pattern a list of Scheepjes Catona colors that can be used depending on the skin tone you wish to create. You will also need a small amount of yarn for each rainbow color.
► A crochet hook suitable for your yarn, 2.25 mm / size B with Scheepjes Catona
► A tapestry needle, or yarn needle
► Pins
► 2 stitch markers
► Fiberfill stuffing

Stitches used: chain, slip stitch, magic ring, single crochet, increase, (invisible) decrease, double crochet, back loops only, front loops only, puff stitch, crochet into a ring, fastening off in the invisible way, Crochet into a ring
Measurement: About 16 cm tall (6.2’’), depending on the yarn used and your tension.
