US English pattern by Little Green Bear. Includes step-by-step pictures.
I’ve made Wesley the whale using a super chunky #6 weight plush yarn. This is ideal for a big soft and huggable toy and is a quick make, you can make your whale in a few hours. Wesley can be made with or without the white underside piece, you can decide.
The 13 page pattern is intermediate skill level and uses US terminology. It is clear to follow with detailed instructions and lots of pictures for step by step making and assembly. There is also an adjustment for using non-plush yarn as well as picture instructions for invisible finish, magic ring alternative and tips for sewing using jumbo chenille yarn.
Recommended Materials:
- Yarn: I have made Wesley using Premier Parfait Chunky (super chunky weight plush yarn) - yarn amounts and colour details in pattern
- Hook: 5mm (H) crochet hook (a 6mm hook is also needed for the underside piece)
- Stuffing: I use polyester filling
- Safety eyes: I have used 15mm plastic safety eyes, but you can embroider the eyes on if you prefer
- Large yarn needle
- Pins
- (A stitch marker and row counter are useful)
Stitches used: chain, slip stitch, magic ring, single crochet, increase, (invisible) decrease, half double crochet, double crochet
Measurement: He is 12.5 inches long in super chunky weight yarn - 19.5 inches long in jumbo - (if using same yarn/hook as me).
